Our business units

We report our financial results in four segments. These are shown below, together with the business units and activities that contribute to each segment.

Support services

• > Facilities management – provides facilities management, consultancy and other support services for buildings and property estates in the UK, primarily for private sector customers.
• > UK infrastructure services – provides management and maintenance services for road, rail and utility networks.
• > Government services – provides facilities management, consultancy and other support services for public sector customers in the UK, notably in the health, defence and education sectors.
• > Canada and the Caribbean – provides road maintenance, facilities management and other support services, primarily in the health sector.
• > Middle East – Emrill, our Joint Venture business, provides facilities management and services for buildings and property.

Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects

• > Carillion arranges project finance for PPP projects in which we make equity investments. We make investments only in projects for which we provide other services, ideally a fully integrated service including design, construction, maintenance and facilities management.
• > Our key sectors of the PPP market in the UK are defence, education, health, transport infrastructure and secure accommodation, such as prisons and courts, and in Canada, health is our main market sector.
• > After projects have been built and have moved successfully into the operational phase, we may sell our equity investments and reinvest the proceeds in new projects, in order to generate value for the Group.

Middle East construction services

• > Al Futtaim Carillion, Joint Venture – provides construction services for buildings and infrastructure in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Egypt.
• > Carillion Alawi – provides construction services for building and infrastructure in Oman.
• > All activities form part of our Middle East and North Africa (MENA) business.

Construction services (excluding the Middle East)

• > UK building – provides construction services for building PPP projects and other support services customers, and for selected sectors of the non-housing, commercial building market.
• > UK infrastructure services – provides construction services for transport infrastructure, flood defence, wind energy and other specialist civil engineering projects.
• > Canada and the Caribbean – provides construction services for buildings, notably PPP hospital projects in Canada, and a range of other building and infrastructure projects in Canada and the Caribbean.
