Home Executive Summary About Carillion Our Sustainability Programme 2004 Performance

Resource use – Corporate objectives and targets

2010 Objective – To demonstrate peer group leadership in delivering solutions to reduce our impact on the environment & in prudent use of natural resources.

2004 Target – Increase direct purchasing of FSC timber including in our supply chain. Target score achieved 50%

In 2004 we reduces the amount of directly purchased, but the %FSC remained at 17% of the total, as in 2003

In 2004, as part of our sustainability targets and our membership of the WWF Forest and Trade Network, we demonstrate progress in the procurement of FSC certified timber as a percentage of our overall timber procurement. Due to changes in the WWF reporting regime, implemented in January 2005, we now report on volume of timber species and the sustainability category the material falls into. The reporting includes our direct procurement and procurement of timber products through 3rd parties, i.e. our sub-contractors.

Awareness of timber sustainability issues has increased both within Carillion and with out clients, consultants and suppliers over the last year. The availability of FSC certified timber is increasing and we have reduced the overall numbers of our suppliers and concentrated on those with FSC Chain of Custody..

One of our 2005 actions is to develop an intranet area for timber sustainability, which will include the Timber Procurement Policy, guidance notes, database of suppliers with certified capabilities, some case studies, links to WWF, FSC and Greenpeace sites and more.

2005 Carillion Standard - Increase direct purchasing of FSC timber in line with WWF/Greenpeace agreements

The supply chain for timber in 2005 should provide more visibility than in the past and our efforts will be concentrated on integrating our supply chain partners to provide sustainable solutions to our customers.
