Activity:

Carillion has undertaken a wide range of educational activities in local Hounslow schools in association with the Education Business Partnership programme

The Education Business Partnership has been set up nationwide, in recognition of the roles that business can play in raising the aspirations and achievements of young people, and better prepare then for adult and working life.

The programme undertaken by Carillion has been themed around issues of sustainability and design. Staff members spent time with a group of twenty 12-13 year-old science students looking at designing new products from waste materials. At the end of the sessions the team had built water and air powered rockets from recyclable products

Carillion staff have also delivered training for a group of A-level students. They covered issues of sustainability in the design of sports centres and housing, through to office furniture!

Volunteers from across the business groups have also been able to offer schools opportunities for work experience, site visits and industry days. It is envisaged that young people participating will get a clearer picture of the scope of Carillion’s work, and opportunities for themselves in the future.

The Partnership has since been recognised with the Schools and Business Partnership Trophy from Hounslow Borough Council.
