Carillion Services
1 of 5 offices in Carillion’s initial 3 year EWC Contract for DHE SW Region – now extended, beyond 4th year in it’s 5th year.

Issue:

In response to Carillion Services’ 2003 Sustainability Targets and Carillion Group Sustainability Targets they have been able to ‘Think Global and Act Local’. This case shows how a small professional services office was able to respond to respond to a storage need with little physical impact or financial cost.

They needed to accommodate paper storage necessary to meet a contract that was initially 3 years in length and now into its fifth. The contract has a requirement to serve a sole client, who is electronically inaccessible to us, and to receive the client’s paper information for comment and confirm its receipt on paper, issue advice, minutes, etc again on paper.

Solution:

Although we were operating with the IT equipment provided there was a clear need for further storage. Through our close and regular relations with the client’s local representatives, we were informed of their proposal to send a selection of fixings and fittings to landfill. At the same time we saw the potential for meeting our needs. The re-use of pre-owned shelves was a small and simple decision that will have wide and deep benefits to sustainability.

Business Benefits:

• Reduced cost.
• Employee motivation, celebrating ingenuity.
• Pollution risk minimised, reduced landfill and trees left to use CO2!
• More effective supply chain management
• Further improve customer relations.
